Havildar Hla Maung BGM

For continued display of leadership in the field and personal courage of a very high order on all occasions.

On 2nd June Halivldar Hla Maung was with a recce party sent to recce area just south of NAIGNB on the east bank of the IRRAWADDY opposite MYITAYINA.

He was sent on to contact a villager and bring him back for questioning. This he did by slipping between two Japanese section posts and entering a hut in the middle of the Japanese position. On the way back he was heavily fired at which fire he returned and eventually withdrew together with the villager. This consummate piece of daring resulted in our obtaining much valuable information without which we could not have inflicted heavy losses on the enemy or the negligible loss to ourselves.

This is but one incident from among many which proved the high courage and devotion to duty of this man.
