Subedar TIKA BAHADUR KHATTRI was in command of 12 platoon in the advance on point 2171 over looking TAUNGI, BURMA on July 9th.
He was ordered to pass his platoon through the right flank of the leading platoon and continue the attack to the summit of the ridge. Under intense fire he personally led this attack manoeuvring his sections most coolly & skilfully. The pl reached the forward slope of the ridge clearing the enemy from their trenches as it went with grenade & automatics. Subbedar TIKA BAHADUR was to the fore throughout the charge.
At this point his pl came under heavy MMG fire from the front, and enemy could be seen advancing in a counter attack, which was broken up by his fire. He ordered his platoon to consolidate and took a section to a more forward posn, where they could obtain a better field of view. He walked around his section positions, checking them & arranging evacuation and dressing of his casualties, disregarding the heavy MMG fire.
Subedar TIKA BAHDAUR's cheerfulness, coolness and leadership; apart from personal courage of a high order, enabled his platoon to carry their objective.
I recommend him for the award of the I.O.M.
