Date of Recommendation

28th June 1944

Regtl. No.

Rank and Name

Lieutenant John George Anderson LUCAS

Action for which recommended -

Lieut LUCAS took over command of 'A' Company in the first attack on NATIYGON, 9th June 1944, after Captain BURNS and Captain PETERSEN had been wounded.

The Company was temporarily held up by determined enemy LMGs and snipers which were completely concealed. Under intense small arms fire, undaunted by the very thick jungle which reduce visibility to practically nothing, he pressed on towards his objective leading his company personally. Although wounded in the shoulder and arm he refused to leave his Company and continued to press the attack until ordered by his Commanding Officer to hand over to Lieut ALLMOND and report to the R.A.P.

On the many attacks made by his Company during the campaign and during the defence of Henu Block, this officers contempt for his own safety under all conditions of small arms, mortar and artillery fire has been beyond praise.

Dated 28 June 44. Field.
