At Henu Chaung on 18 April 44 Lieut. Virgo was in command of the Support Troop of his Regiment during the attack on Japanese positions. During this action the fire of the Support Troop was instrumental in breaking up several determined counter attacks by the enemy on the position gained by the Coln. Lieut. Virgo was himself severely wounded in the early stages of the action by a burst of machine gun fire through the shoulder. He refused to leave his troop and continued to direct the fire of his guns. This display of personal courage and leadership was a fine example to all ranks.
This was the second action in three weeks in which the fire of his guns had considerable effect owing to his skilful handling.
