On 28 May MAJOR BOOTH was in command of a forward block on the KYUSANLAI PASS. During the morning it was accurately engaged by a Japanese heavy mortar, and casualties to our troops were caused. MAJOR BOOTH was imperturbable, and his personal example had an extreme steadying effect on the troops under his command.
Whilst MAJOR BOOTH was holding this forward block, a freshly dug Japanese Coy position was located on high ground commanding the southern approach to the PASS. At that time it was unoccupied. MAJOR BOOTH with two of his Platoons were relieved from the block and ordered to occupy this position. In the event of the Japanese having returned before his arrival, he was ordered to dislodge them. This task involved a night approach in complete darkness, over exceptionally difficult country, by tired troops. Through sheer determination and outstanding powers of leadership MAJOR BOOTH succeeded in reaching his objective before the enemy, and occupied the position at first light.
Throughout the campaign MAJOR BOOTH has displayed exceptionally high powers of leadership, and untiring energy and resource. His complete imperturbability had a most excellent effect on troops previously untried. He has been a magnificent example, and had the complete trust of the troops under his command.
