On 16th May 1944 at BLACKPOOL Block, Sgt. Fox was Platoon Sgt of No. 1 Platoon 46 Coln which was defending a hill feature that had been repeatedly attacked for several days. At approx 1800 hrs the position came under heavy and accurate artillery fire and one of the many hits on this position temporarily stunned the Platoon Comd and many of the men in the posts. Throughout the shelling Sgt. Fox remained very cheerful and shouted encouragement to his men and afterwards personally organised the defence to meet the heavy Jap attack which followed later. His cheerful manner was an inspiration to all and undoubtedly contributed largely to the spirit with which the men drove off all subsequent attacks that night.
