Action for which recommended -

On 1oth May 1944, during the evacuation of a raod and railway block in Burma, a box of cordite charges burst into flames. Two men were trapped burning in a trench. Sergeant Oliver, well knowing the great risk invovled, entered the shell dump which was being prepared for demolition and rescued one of the men and then returned and found that the other had escaped unaided. By his complete disregard for personal safety, Sergeant Oliver undoubtedly saved the life of one of his comrades.
