Volunteers for 1944 Chindit Campaign
When the force was being assembled in September 1943 there was a call for officer volunteers to join from other units in India.[1] Also unfit men were weeded out and their replacements came from other units. About five percent of the force were volunteers or selected men.[2]This is why in the lists of recipients there are men from regiments that did not form the Chindits.
