Rifleman Narbahadur Khattri

Action for which recommended -

For personal bravery and courage of the highest order.

On 10 June 1944 during the third attack on (illegible) village, the advance platoons were separated from the main reserve by an infiltration party of Japs. Narbahadur Khattri was given an important message to take forward. On the way he encountered the enemy who fired at him but although hit he continued to go forward and managed to deliver the message. He then, knowing the reply to be important to the fighting then going on and in spite of being previously hit, insisted that he should be the return messenger as he knew the enemy whereabouts. This act was seen by many and his successfull return had considerbale effect on the subsequent fighting. His own actions showed complete disregard for personal safety and devotion to duty of a standard in keeping with the finest tradition of the Indian Army.
