Brigade

77th Indian Infantry

Division

3rd Indian

Unit

1st Bn The King's (Liverpool) Regiment

Date of
Recommendation

16th July 1944

Regtl. No.

69109

Rank and Name

T/Major Richard Henry Ryan Stainton

Action for which recommended -

Major STAINTON commanded Rear Brigade Headquarters throughout the operations. This duty was, in other Brigades, carried out by the 2nd-in-command of the Brigade, an officer of the rank of Colonel. Major STAINTON's performance of the very responsible duties involved, contributed largely to the success of the operations carried out by the Brigade.

On the death of the D.A.Q.M.G. of the Brigade, Major STAINTON assumed those duties in addition to his own. When owing to difficult weather conditions and enemy action, some reluctance to fly in Supply Dropping Aircraft became apparent. Major STAINTON himself flew in the aircraft so setting an example which restored the situation.

This officer has borne a great responsibility in excess of that warranted by his rank, for a prolonged period. His good sense, hard work determination and readiness to assume heavy responsibilities are deserving of the highest commendation.
