For personal bravery and leadership on many occasions when in very close contact with the enemy.
On 11th May 1944 he was ordered to recce the BHAMO-MYITKYINA road bridge over the MALI KHA. Although this was found occupied by approx one coy of Japs he moved to within 20 yards of one Jap post and then decided he could only get the information required by actually penetrating the defences. Although spotted moving through the enemy perimeter and fired on, he did not turn back but continue on. This bold decision and excellent jungle craft enabled him to evade the pursuit party. He remained within the perimeter for a further hour noting all details and returned unharmed with all and more vital information which could not have been obtained by any other means.
On every occasion possible, this officer has displayed great boldness and skill both in recce and in actual battle and his actions on this and other occasions, has been an inspiration to all ranks.
