Colonel (temporary) H.T. Alexander OBE MBE

As Colonel General Staff, Col. ALEXANDER was largely instrumental in the organisation and training of the Force prior to Operations.

Later he assumed the duties of operational planning and execution and proved himself to be both practical, imaginative and conscientious. His experience on an Allied HQ in N.AFRICA made him invaluable when the Force was under command of General STILWELL where his tact, good humour, and obvious military efficiency gained the closest co-operation and help from the American Staff.

Whenever possible he flew in to visit columns in the field and spared no pains to acquaint himself first hand with conditions in the field and how best the troops could be helped to gain the objectives required of them.
